Dare to Revitalize Education thru Arts & Mediation (DREAM!) is a community-based organization on a mission to dismantle the school-to-prison pipeline by encouraging creative confidence in young people and equipping educators with practical skills to support positive student engagement and academic success. DREAM! serves this mission through programs that integrate Social Emotional Learning, Restorative Justice Practices and the Arts.

DREAM! collaborates with students, families, and educational partners to create positive youth-centered school cultures. Our team utilizes our passions and professional talents to help shape successful learning environments where school violence, suspensions, and arrests are reduced annually.

About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Program Manager, Teaching Artists’ will be responsible for the planning, facilitation, and organizing of our in-school and after-school arts-based conflict resolution programs. Teaching Artists will work directly with our youth participants in middle and high schools across NYC.

About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Director of Programs (DOP), the Parent & Family Coordinator will be responsible for the oversight, organizing, and coordinating of our parent and family engagement programs. The Family Coordinator will create inclusive and engaging parent and family workshops emphasizing the use of creative, conflict resolution skills in the home.

The ideal candidate will be a strategic leader and effective communicator who possess the ability to:

Integrate arts education into conflict resolution and restorative practices curriculum
Facilitate workshops for diverse groups of community members
Sustain program partnerships
Key Areas of Responsibility:

Leadership & Management

Serve as the liaison between school, parents, families, and DREAM!
Assist with the collaboration among DREAM!, the parents, families, and the school community, as our collaborative work fosters safe and positive youth-centered school cultures
Educate teachers and staff on how to communicate and work effectively with parents and families as equal partners
Ability to facilitate meetings and workshops for parents in conflict resolution education and restorative justice practices for the home
Provide referrals to community-based services for families; expand opportunities for continued learning, voluntary community service, and civic participation
Help parents and families understand their child’s schools culture and systems of support
Regularly visit each of your program sites
Support a positive learning environment, where new ideas are encouraged, and parents feel heard program success is celebrated
Strategy, Operations, and Evaluation

Provide materials such as event calendars, brochures, and educational resources to parents, families, and school partners
Train parents & families to be trainers in restorative justice practices and mediation for the home
Assist in ongoing curriculum and module updating
Conduct surveys to assess the needs of parents at their local school(s), evaluate the effectiveness of their parent & family involvement programs, distribute the results of parent & family surveys to the school’s leadership team
Keep excellent records of all parent involvement activities, reports, pre, and post surveys
Assure program is being documented in action for promotional material and reports
Coordination and Collaboration

Collaborate with parents, families, teachers, and the school’s leadership team to develop a family-friendly school climate
“Parents as Partners” – involve parents & families in the decision-making process regarding parental and family involvement activities and school improvement
Communicate all of DREAM!’s services to partner sites (Restorative Justice Practices, Peer Mediation, & Conflict Resolution through the Arts)

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) minimum
At least two (2) years related experience, ideally in an NYC DOE environment working with parents and/or advocating for children
Skills and Approach to Work

Excellent communication and organizational skills
Strong public speaking and presentation skills
A self-motivated leader who can work independently as well as part of a team
Strong knowledge of computers and fundamental technology (i.e. Smartboards, zoom, projectors, etc.)
Understands and respects the diversity of families’ economic, linguistic and cultural backgrounds and situations
Ability to host parent meetings off school sites and in the local community and/or neighborhoods
Experience with developing collaborative partners and building relationships with constituents in the community
Ability to work flexible hours including some nights and weekends
Integrity, credibility, and a commitment to/passion for DREAM!’s mission
Ability to problem-solve, delegate and ask for help

$30 per hour- Part-time/placement based
30 hours of paid training in Peer Mediation, Restorative Justice Practices, and Conflict Resolution in and through the arts
