Overview:Title: AQUATICS DIRECTOR, Bronx Summer Camp Programs
Reports To: Senior Division Coordinator
Location: Various sites in the Bronx
Hours: Up to 35 hours/week, July – August
Job Summary: The Aquatics Director supervises and implements a camp swim program that includes swimming lessons and a well supervised free swim. Ensure the safety of all campers participating in the swim program by monitoring the locker rooms, following safety procedures, providing lessons and life-guarding for the Brooklyn After School programs.
Major Duties:

Design, develop and implement a water safety plan for the program.
Train lifeguards on accident prevention, providing assistance to swimmers and rescue procedures.
Provide training to camp staff on the water safety plan.
Monitor lifeguards and the camp swimming activities.
Rescue swimmers in danger of drowning and administer first aid.
Facilitate and coordinate the implementation of rescue and emergency procedures when an accident occurs.
Maintain order in swimming areas.
Conduct or officiate swimming meets.
Provide swimming instructions, when necessary.
Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

Must be age 21 or over as required by New York State law.
Must have 2+ years’ experience as a lifeguard or aquatics instructor.
Must have CPR certification within the last year, regardless of expiration date.
Must have lifeguard management/ supervision certification approved by NYS Dept of Health.
Must be a certified progressive swimming instructor approved by NYS Dept of Health.
Ability to travel to different programs and pool sites in Brooklyn.
Must have a commitment to work from a strength based and/or youth development perspective.
