Full Job Description
The Family Programs Supervisor is responsible for assisting in the successful implementation of our Family Programming and supporting Explainers in this goal. The Supervisor will assist with the implementation of Family Program activities, and will assist full time staff to oversee explainers and facilities during weekend/holiday hours. The Supervisor will work with other staff and volunteers to guarantee high quality public offerings, and is required to work weekends and holidays/school breaks from September through June. An aspect of this position involves supporting Advanced Explainers virtually in their understanding and facilitation of Phenology studies as Citizen Scientists or science teaching skills and career development with the Intern Explainers.
Additionally, this position supports, through actions and conduct, NYBG’s Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility initiatives and helps to build and maintain an inclusive organization culture throughout the institution.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

Directly facilitate or assist and mentor Children’s Adventure Garden staff and volunteers with implementation of plant-science based socially distant educational activities, including phenology-based studies or supporting the staff Explainers in facilitating mentor meetings with Interns
Ensure excellent and safe customer service experience for all Children’s Adventure Garden guests
Monitor flow of visitors and direct crowds as needed
Reset indoor and outdoor exhibits and restock/ inventory educational program materials at activity stations and in storage
Oversee breakdown and proper clean-up of activity stations
Support social distancing guidelines and safety protocols for guests and Explainers
Requirements:

Completed degree in education, museum studies or natural sciences
Must have prior experience teaching in an informal outdoor setting with various audiences, specifically children and families.
Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods.
Previous customer service experience required, managerial experience a plus.
Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Must be very organized.
Must be have strong leadership qualities and be able to foster an atmosphere of teamwork and positivity amongst Children’s Adventure Garden Explainers
Must be available to work weekends
Must be comfortable working outside in all types of weather conditions
Ability to carry 25 lbs
